The Rural Voice, 1989-10, Page 72PERTH * County Federation of Agriculture NEWSLETTER The Rural Voice is provided to farmersin Perth County by the PCFA Paul Verkley, President, R. R. 1, Atwood NOG 1 BO 356-9022 IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY It has been a very busy summer in the OFA's Western Region once again. Throughout the summer we travel into one another's counties to help bol- ster membership — or in farmer's terms, cash flow — for the OFA. I like to compare our blitz strategy to having 15 combines in a large field, much as they do out West. If one or two break down or just can't find anyone home, we still have a dozen others working towards our goal. And we have been successful, with more than 1,550 new or renewed mem- bers since January. Our Perth federation has certainly played a part in this area, having signed more than 25 Last December, another 20 this June, and another 25 in August. I recall reading in this paper several years ago an article entitled It's Your Responsibility, by Adrian Vos. Mr. Vos started off talking about it being election time in Ontario, not meaning federal or provincial elections but annual elec- tions for delegates and directors of the OFA. He went on to remind all members that they have a responsibility for the direction that the OFA takes. And so that is why on October 10 at Atwood we hope to have lots of mem- bers from Perth stand as delegates to the November 27 to 29 Annual Convention. I have yet to meet delegates who haven't been impressed with the OFA's Convention, where more than 400 farm- ers from all over Ontario meet to shape the future of farmers.0 Blaine Stephenson Perth County Federation of Agriculture..
