and utensils.
I jumped off the cupboard and
I I said, "Okay Granny, it's safe now,
down you come." Granny and I
tiptoed to the dining room. There we
saw a touching tableau. Ten pairs of
astonished eyes were riveted on
Davey, who was shovelling, stabbing,
and stuffing into himself anything and
everything that wasn't already on
someone else's plate.
I sat Granny in her chair, which
was placed as far from Davey as could
be, just to give her a fighting chance
as it were, then seated myself next to
Mother. I finally got her attention by
jabbing her with my elbow. "See, I
told you it would be a simple but
dangerous operation to get Davey up."
Mother was absolutely awestruck.
"How did you know?" she asked.
"Simple," I replied nonchalantly.
"I have three sons just like him at
home and I go through this every night
of my life."
Mom looked at me with wonder-
ing eyes. "So must have I," she said.
"And to think that I could have
