UNIT DROPS COSTS
IN FARROWING BARN
Savings of up to 55 per cent in elec-
tricity costs for heating creep areas in
pig farrowing barns have been reported
after installing the Economizer from
Shorflow Engineering.
When compared with an uncon-
trolled creep in trials by the independent
Agricultural Development Advisory
Service in Britain, the Economizer unit
achieved savings in power consumption
of 71 per cent in the case of new-born
pigs and 99 per cent for 2 to 3 -week-old
piglets, an average of 85 per cent over
the 3 -week period.
The device controls the 250 W infra-
red bulb used to heat the creep area. Two
models are available, controlling up to 4
or 8 250 W bulbs. For more informa-
