REEL PREVENTS
WIRE TANGLES
Barry Wigle, who operates a drain-
age business near Mildmay, was helping
his father move an electric fence. The
tangle of wire sent them to the work-
shop.
The result is a handy reel that enables
one man to coil up 2,000 feet of smooth
wire ("It takes two men to handle barbed
wire," Wiglc cautions).
14
"When our neighbours saw it, they
all wanted one, so we decided maybe
there was a market for such a device,"
Wigle says.
He went into production in his work-
shop, putting to work employees in his
drainage business who otherwise might
have been laid off. They manufactured
120 units.
The wire winder is a reel on a stand.
When the reel is full, a thumb screw can
be loosened to allow the outer flange to
be removed so the wire coil can be
extracted for storage.
The winder can also be used to
unwind wire. A thumb -screw adjust-
able brake prevents free -wheeling as
one person pulls the wire off the coil
without tangles.0
