COMPANY: Stanley Farm Supply,
Bervie and Teeswater
their equipment better. This means
inside storage. If they cannot or do not
do their own, they should have
machinery serviced twice a year at their
dealership.
PROGNOSIS: As in the dealerships,
farmers must cut their costs, as I don't
think profit will come from the
marketplace. Most will look at rotating
their crops to cut down on fertilizer,
weed spray, pesticides, etc.
NAME: Joe Benninger
COMPANY: Mullin's Farm
Service, Chepstow
LINES CARRIED/
PARTS MANUFACTURED: W.F.E. and
N.I., Landini, Universal, Dion
OUTLOOK FOR 1989: There seems to be
enough inventory. Sales should be
about the same as in 1988. Good used
equipment is becoming scarce and
priced higher.
BUSINESS CHANGES
AND ADJUSTMENTS: Our biggest
change in the '80s was to go towards a
cash basis for parts, etc. — even more so
now that interest has gone up. We have
reduced our inventory that has a short
due date. We also completely rebuild
more of our used equipment to get a
substantially higher price.
INNOVATIONS OR DEVELOPMENTS: A
trend in our area is to more rotation. We
are also seeing less corn grown, so corn
equipment sales are down. More
farmers are taking the cash discount on
equipment rather than the companies'
finance plans.
BUYING PATTERNS: We find
consumers are not buying until they
have the money or at least know they can
pay in a shorter term than previously.
EQUIPMENTCARE: With the highercost
of equipment farmers must look after
LINES CARRIED/
PARTS MANUFACTURED: Deutz Allis,
N. I., Belarus, Hardi, Eastern, Norcan,
Farm King, Polaris ATV
OUTLOOK FOR 1989: The inventory is
limited on some items. Sales were
excellent in January and February and
good used equipment is selling at
premium prices.
BUSINESS CHANGES
AND ADJUSTMENTS: We have reduced
inventory because of high carrying costs
and are selling only what we know how
to sell. Parts and service are our top
priority.
INNOVATIONS OR DEVELOPMENTS:
We provide the full range of financial
services offered by the companies and
some of our own. Mid-range
horsepower tractors are selling well.
Rentals are increasing and
demonstrations have always been
necessary.
BUYING PATTERNS: A large amount of
used and old equipment must be
replaced soon. We feel a slight rise in
demand.
NAME: Wayne and Keith Stoltz
COMPANY: Stoltz Sales and
Service, Listowel
LINES CARRIED/ Wayne Stolz
PARTS MANUFACTURED: Case Int.
OUTLOOK FOR 1989: We are very
optimistic about the sale potential of
1989 because we are selling the best
product line in the history of Case IH.
We achieved record sales levels in 1988
— the best year since we started 10 years
ago. After last year's record sales we are
coming into 1989 with a very low used
equipment inventory. Good used
equipment is getting very hard to find.
INNOVATIONS OR DEVELOPMENTS:
We are impressed with the performance
of the Magnum tractor. This tractor is
the best -built tractor ever produced. Its
reliability and dependability make us
proud to sell it.
BUYING PATTERNS: Customers are de-
manding a quality product that will help
them become more efficient on their
farms. Case is committed to building a
quality product and we at Stoltz are
committed to selling and servicing it.
EQUIPMENT CARE: Stoltz Sales &
Service offers a free checkover every
year on any Case IH new or used tractor
or combine that is purchased from us.
