COOK'S DIVISION
Parrish & Heimbecker Limited is the
new owner of the Cook's Division of
Gerbo (1987) Inc., effective December
31, 1988.
Based in Hensall, Ontario, Cook's is
a world leader in the processing and
export of edible beans. The company
markets between 35 and 40 per cent of
Canada's white beans, plus other edible
beans.
Cook's, which employs about 70
people, has elevators in Hensall, Cen-
tralia, Kirkton, and Walton, Ontario.
The company provides crop inputs and
other services in addition to grain and
bean handling.
"We are very pleased about the addi-
tion of Cook's to our company," says
Herbert Heimbecker. "It gives P & H an
entry into the edible bean market, which
complements our existing business
well. In many cases, Cook's and P & H
are operating in the same export mar-
kets."
Current management will remain at
Cook's with Bill Harvey as chief execu-
tive officer. The company will continue
to operate under the Cook's name, as a
division of Parrish & Heimbecker Lim-
ited.
Parish & Heimbecker has extensive
interests in the grain, feed, flour, and
poultry business, employing more than
1,500 people. Based in Winnipeg,
Manitoba, P & H has operating divi-
sions in every province except Prince
Edward Island and Newfoundland.0
PIONEER SEED LAB
IS ACCREDITED
Pioneer Hi-Bred's Seed Germina-
tion Laboratory was recently accredited
by Agriculture Canada.
The accreditation allows the labora-
tory to perform as an independent ger-
mination testing facility for corn, soy-
bean, and sorghum seeds.
To maintain accreditation, the seed
laboratory must meet high government
standards which include regular moni-
toring and routine double-checking of
seed samples to verify the lab's accu-
