The Rural Voice, 1989-02, Page 29NEWS POLITICAL VETERAN PASSES AWAY Farquhar Oliver, former Ontario Liberal leader and a native of Grey County, died January 22 at the age of 84. Oliver began his political career at age 16 as a campaigner for Canada's first woman MP, Agnes MacPhail. At 22, he was the youngest person ever elected to the Ontario legislature. Winning the Grey riding in 1926, he represented the area until 1967, when he retired to his farm near the town of Durham. He was a member of the United Farmers of Ontario until 1941, when he became a Liberal minister and then party leader.0 FIELDMAN RETIRES Bob Ferguson, fieldman with the Dairy Inspection Branch for Bruce, Grey, and North Huron, retired recently. A 1953 Ontario Agricultural Col- lege graduate, Ferguson farmed before starting his career in dairy inspection.
