The Rural Voice, 1988-11, Page 42NEWS RURAL RIDINGS GETTING RARER Canada's rural areas will have pro- portionately fewer voices speaking for them when the next parliament meets in the House of Commons. Riding boundarics have been redis- tributed to reflect the increasing urbani- zation of Canada, thus increasing the next parliament to 295 seats from 282. The number of rurally influenced seats will remain at 130, says New Democrat MP Vic Althouse, but they will represent a smaller portion of the House. In the last sitting of parliament, using Althouse's 130 -seat estimate, more than 46 per cent of MPs represented some rural constituents. In the 34th parlia- ment, that figure will decline to 44 per cent — and the trend will continue.0 HURON CHOOSES DAIRY PRINCESS The new Huron County dairy prin- cess is Lisa Boonstoppel (left), of R. R. 1, Auburn. Others vying for the title were Laura Hallahan, R. R. 3, Blyth, and Marlene Albers, R.R. 2, Bluevale (who was chosen Miss Congeniality). Each contestant made a presentation relating to the dairy industry; judging was based on personality, presentation, extra -curricular activities, and knowl- edge of the dairy industry. Brenda Bridge (right), a former dairy princess, is the new dairy princess co-ordinator for Huron. Anyone wish- ing to have the new dairy princess in attendance to promote milk and milk products in Huron County should call her at 395-5911, she says.0 HURONIA WELDING & INDUSTRIAL SUPPLIES LTD.
