6 THE RURAL VOICE
FEEDBACK
few may benefit at the expense of the
many, thereby transforming food from
a blessing to a curse, from sustenance
to a commodity. This market ideology
further increases the stress on indi-
viduals, families, communities, and
the environment.
We will vocally and publicly
oppose our respective governments'
efforts to impose the FTA on our
people.
We will work with coalitions and
organizations that share our funda-
mental principles and commitments.
We will educate church people
about the growing concentration of
power over their lives by corporations
whose interests are not those of the
people and their communities.
We reject the immorality of the
betrayal of farm and rural communi-
ties by politicians and some farm
leaders elected to represent their
constituencies and will work to secure
representation of our affected commu-
nities by elected officials.
We will seek to strengthen our bi-
national relationships and common
commitments.
We call upon the churches of our
nations to encourage people to study
and consider these issues, to give
increased support to rural people, and
to join us in our commitments to
securing social and economic justice
for all peoples.°
