So am I.
Let's talk.
Do you find it harder
and harder to make a
living out of farming? I
do. And so do a lot of
other farmers just like
us. But when times get
tough, we have to pull
together. Tell me what
you think the OFA can
be doing to help you
better.
The OFA Executive
Committee members
will be in the OFA
building at the Plowing
Match to meet you. We
need to know that what
we're pushing for is
what you need.
Let's talk. We want to
hear what's on your
mind.

62 PERTH COUNTY SPECIAL EDITION
CONGRATULATIONS
Meet Your 1988
IPM Hosts .. .
Augustin and Hanna Walch,
host farmers for the 1988
International Plowing Match.
When Perth County last hosted
the IPM in 1972, Augustin and Hanna
Walch were busy on their 100 -acre
farm near Munich, Germany.
This year, the Walchs are host
farmers for the match. They came to
Canada eight years ago, establishing
W. Charlotte Farms Ltd. on Lots 4, 5,
6, and part of 3 in Downie Township
just southwest of Stratford.
About 250 acres of their large
farm will be used for the Perth extra-
vaganza.
The Walch farm is a mix of dairy
cows, horses, cash crops, and an
elevator business. The dairy herd is
Holstein and the horses are of German
lineage raised for show jumping and
dressage.
Hanna Walch, who ran her own
pharmacy in Germany, oversees the
horses and manages a breeding barn.
Cash crops on the farm include
soybeans, corn, barley, and wheat.
Augustin and Hanna Walch
have five children ranging in age from
11 to 26. Their daughter works in
Kitchener and one son is employed on
the farm. the other three boys are in
school — elementary, secondary, and
university.0
Worried
about
fra¢
trade?
No one has to tell you
how many challenges
farmers face. We all deal
with them every day.
Free trade is just one of
them. Waste manage-
ment is pretty high on
the list. So is crop insur-
ance. Farm finance and
credit. Debt review. The
right to farm.
OFA tackles a lot of
issues and policies each
year. We want to make
sure they're your issues
and policies.
We'll be looking forward
to meeting you at the
Plowing Match.
