54 PERTH COUNTY SPECIAL EDITION
PCPPA Active
on Many Fronts
Garry Van Loon,
PCPPA president
The Perth County Pork Producers
Association (PCPPA) is the group that
supports the vital hog industry in the
county.
Perth is the first county in Ontario
for number of hogs marketed, with 13.4
per cent of the province's pork produc-
ers.
John Lichti is the Perth County
board representative on the Ontario
Pork Producers Marketing Board. The
Perth association includes 11 townships
and has 38 directors, including one
honorary member and four representa-
tives from the Ontario Ministry of Agri-
culture and Food.
Marketing: The PCPPA directors
attend monthly meetings to discuss is-
sues and coming events. Annually, the
PCPPA is represented at the Ontario
Pork Congress, Perth Ag Week, the
Dairy and Pork Fest, and the 1PM. The
group markets 20 tonnes of pork chops
a year.
Lobbying: The issue of getting
farm -fed grains placed under the stabili-
zation program for grains has been cen-
tral over the past year. PCPPA concerns
are being discussed with both federal
and provincial governments.
