EDITOR'S DESK
June brings not only beautiful
"glad to be alive" days but the
Ontario Pork Congress in Stratford,
the culmination of a year's work to
display for producers the best in their
business. June is also Dairy Month,
and in this issue we feature both the
dairy and pork industries in special
sections, interviewing the Henderson
family, who raise Hampshire breeding
stock, and the Wests, whose Jersey
and Holstein cows are among the
finest.
In other features, Keith Roulston
provides insight into the work of the
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and
Food and our agriculture minister,
Jack Riddell. Suzanne Lovegrove
focuses on alfalfa and the crop's
history. Voice from the Past contin-
ues, and we present the winner of the
Grey -Bruce MNR editorial contest
for school children. We also have a
photo feature on the Centralia College
graduates: a distinguished crop.
Ridgetown students graduated last
month too, and a list of Ridgetown
award -winners can be found in the
news department.
And there's more: in Notebook,
Deborah Kennish-McCoubrey writes
of close encounters of the farm kind;
in Rural Living, Rhea Hamilton -
Seeger finds out some strange facts
about pigs; and in Rural Heritage,
Stratford -Perth Archives staff describe
a distinctive architectural style.
Hoping that June brings you "glad
to be alive" days ...
