BUSINESS CHANGES: There is less of a market for large tractors and com- bines. We've changed our attitude and have had to look at the consumer market, i.e., lawn and garden equip- ment and smaller tractors as well as shortline equipment. We've also tried to improve our parts and service department. TRENDS AND INNOVATIONS: All companies are trying to sell more electronic equipment which makes the farmer more efficient. The most new equipment that is being sold has a value of $5,000 to $20,000. BUYING PATTERNS: Customers want to buy a product from a financially strong company which can supply parts and service and offers the pos- sibility of a good resale trade value. ADVICE ON EQUIPMENT CARE: Take advantage of pre -season check -overs offered by dealers. This should save farmers money and aggravation during the season. PROGNOSIS: There will be a steady improvement in the next ten years. There will also be more amalgama- tions and fewer dealers. Farmers will likely have more off -farm jobs if they are close to large industrial centres.
