The Rural Voice, 1988-04, Page 77MACHINERY SPECIAL inventory, slow coming, good volume sales, and a good supply of used equipment. BUSINESS CHANGES: Business is much more competitive. We have to merchandize better and business man- agement has to change. We have anticipated that old equipment is wearing out and have ordered fairly heavily. We find that units are being sold before they arrive. TRENDS AND INNOVATIONS: Case has introduced more than 60 new machines under the Case IH name since 1985 (spring). During heavy discounting by companies our sales have risen slightly, not fallen. In Ontario, 55.1 per cent of 140 -plus horsepower tractors sold in 1987 were Case IH. In Canada, one in four 40 to 90 -horsepower units sold were Case IH. In Ontario in 1987, 37.6 per cent of the new combines sold were Case 1H axial. BUYING PATTERNS: Customers get four to five prices and want to buy at home with the lowest price they got. Business is very competitive. ADVICE ON EQUIPMENT CARE: Do a better job of servicing by following the owner's manual or servicing better through dealer instruction. PROGNOSIS: The industry will stabilize with fewer companies and dealers. North American farmers on high -horsepower and harvest equip- ment will not buy off -shore machines. Free trade could lower farm prices unless they're protected. STU REAVIE REAVIE FARM EQUIPMENT LTD. Lucknow, Ontario OUTLOOK FOR 1988: There will be a Ford tractor shortage, and programs will be cut back. All companies are looking to control overproduction. Good used equipment is hard to find. The outlook is more positive than in 1987. n n • Hammer Mills * Feed Mixers * Baby Pig Scales * Market Hog/Sheep Scales JL)WELDING R. R.1, Sebringville, Ont.
