WHAT'S NEW
NEW DEWORMER
IS INTRODUCED
Davis & Lawrence of Cambridge
have introduced Totalon (Levamisole)
Topical Cattle Dewormer.
A dewormer that can be applied
directly to the animal's back, Totalon
quickly penetrates the hide and enters
the animal's bloodstream where it is
carried to all points of worm infestation.
Totalon kills the major cattle worms
of economic importance, including
stomach worms, intestinal worms, and
lungworms.
Available in 500 mL and 2 -litre
containers, Totalon can be applied using
a measure/pour container or with the
applicator gun.

FEEDING PROGRAM
OFFERS PRECISION
Perfo-Lacs, a computerized nutri-
tion and health program for dairy cattle,
has been launched in Ontario at the
Shur -Gain Research Farm in Maple.
"At Shur -Gain," says Bob Patterson,
general nutrition manager, "we've spent
eight years and $1.3 million in research
to develop the Perfo-Lact data package.
It's a comprehensive feeding program
which incorporates the most specific
and complete nutrition tables available
to form the basis of the entire Perfo-Lact
program."
To initiate the program, a Shur -Gain
representative comes to the farm to rec-
ord information about each cow: age,
breed, weight, milk butterfat and protein
output, and stage of lactation. The rep-
resentative then evaluates the feeding
program and forage quality. These vari-
ables are transferred to the Perfo-Lact
mainframe computer, which produces
individualized data. The data are trans-
ferred to "barn cards" showing precise,
realistic feeding requirements for each
cow.
The cost of the program averages
about $5 a cow each year. The program
was launched in the Quebec market
more than a year ago under the name
