COST OF ROUNDUP
TO BE LOWER IN '88
Monsanto Canada has announced
that the cost of controlling quackgrass
with Roundup herbicide will go down
again in 1988. In the past two years, the
price has been lowered by about 26 per
cent.
"Our latest price action reduces the
cost to $18 an acre," says Roundup
product manager Gord Froehlich.0
JD INTRODUCES
THE 900 SERIES
John Deere has developed the 900
Series platforms for combines to im-
prove crop handling and ease of service.
The rigid, flexible, draper, and belt
pickup models come in widths from 13
to 30 feet (1.4 m to 9 m) depending on
the platform.
All 900 Series cutting platforms,
except the draper, feature stainless steel
feedplates running the width of the cut-
ter bar. The Dura-FIoTT" pickup reel,
standard on flexible models and option-
al on rigid models, has galvanized metal
bats which lessen shatter loss. Reel
wrapping is reduced and crop lifting is
improved with nylon pickup fingers.
Other features include bolt -in Dura-
CutTM knife sections and removable
built-in centre flighting extensions for
20 feet (6 m) and wider platforms to
maintain uniform feeder house crop
distribution. On the 24 and 30 -foot
(7.30 m and 9 m) platform augers, ex-
tended pitch flighting feeds larger com-
bines better at faster speeds.0
UCO SIGNS DEAL
WITH GARST SEED
The United Co-operatives of On-
tario has signed a marketing agreement
with Garst Seed Company of Iowa.
Last year, Garth, which has been in
the seed corn business since 1930, sold
limited amounts of its hybrids in Ontario
through seed corn dealers. The UCO
will use a group of Garst dealers to
handle both Garst and Co-op hybrids.
Garst hybrids will strengthen the
UCO's hybrid line-up primarily in the
2900-3300 heat unit areas.0
