4 THE RURAL VOICE
EDITOR'S DESK
It's been a busy pre -Christmas
month at The Rural Voice — dead-
lines get tougher before the holiday
season, and the farm community has
been especially mobile in the past
month or so with annual meetings and
conventions. But there's always time
to remember the contributions of
Rural Voice readers, writers, and
advertisers. To all of you, thank you
and best wishes for the coming year.
This month we feature a variety
of subjects, from farm financing and
strategies to harvesting woodlots.
Cathy Laird interviews Paul Long, a
farmer in the Chatsworth area who
since the age of 12 has been building
toward the successful hog operation
he owns today. Mary -Lou Weiser -
Hamilton talks to Orval Ford, a trap-
per who knows the theory behind his
work as well as he knows the practice.
And Ian Wylie-Toal continues his
series on agricultural research.
We also visit some 'farm forums,"
including the Ontario Federation of
Agriculture convention and the
Christian Farmers Federation of
Ontario annual meeting. Though
perspectives may clash out there, it's
clear that from the dialogue about the
farm community's future will come
resolutions to make that future better.
Agai: , the best of wishes. With
your help, it's been a great year. See
you in '88!0
