Giving the room a little extra
•To spruce up a living room, tie
back a pair of sheers with coloured
bows or use a print if the furniture is a
plain design. Throw cushions in co-
ordinating patterns of stripes, prints
and dots, further enhance the look.
For a little bit of extra expense a
matching valance can be added to the
draperies to finish the look.
•Plants can be placed in a dark,
vacant corner, by using a canned Light.
These can be purchased at a lighting
store and shine up under the plants.
They are low in wattage and cost, in
addition to adding interesting lighting
as well.
•A decorator table can be used to
fill in a dark or boring corner also.
Use a print or solid table cloth to tie it
in then drape a lace cloth over that.
An accent lamp, a picture and
favourite pieces from your china cabi-
net displayed on it add just the right
touch.
Quick tips
•If you use a little table and Lamp
anywhere it's nice to have a chair
beside it.
•If your carpet is worn or you dis-
like the colour, but can't afford to
replace it entirely, put an area carpet
on top, just large enough that the fur-
niture touches on it.
•An inexpensive comforter can be
made for your bed, by using king-size
sheets, filling them with batting, then
sewing them together.
•Paint is an inexpensive way to
transform a chest of drawers or co-
ordinate natural wicker with the over-
all room look.
•Vases and porcelain lamps can be
given a face lift too, using the sponge

The main thing when redecorating,
says Kendra is to make sure the pieces
blend. For example if you are using a
bookend and three books as a table
accent it would be best if the books
were all the same colour.
Also, when placing accents an odd
number is usually better, but, she adds
if it works to have an even number
then use them.
There are rules to follow, but
Kendra says, she feels that if you are
happy with the end result and it is aes-
thetically pleasing then it doesn't hurt
to bend the rules a little.
