42 THE RURAL VOICE
Jack Wilkinson, vice-president of
the Ontario Federation of Agriculture,
who recently announced that he will not
be running for office at the OFA conven-
tion in November, says he's "burned
out."
He cites wishing to spend time with
his wife and five children, aged one to
11, as one of the reasons for his decision.
He also suffered a setback when barns
on a farm he planned to buy near New
Liskeard burned down last month.
"It's time for me to move on, but I
hope to God somebody else does sur-
face," he says, adding that he fears that
the energy to tackle the farm financial
crisis may be dissipating.0
CALL LINE
HELPS FARMERS
Staff at Agriculture Canada's Pesti-
cides Call Line report that they an-
swered close to 4,000 enquiries in 1986,
and expect at least 6,000 this year.
Farmers account for nine per cent of
total enquiries. Those in agribusiness
also call regularly. They often want to
know which products are available to
control a particular pest or have ques-
tions about the compatibility of insecti-
cides with herbicides or fungicides.
