CATTLEMEN'S
ASSOCIATION
According to Don Hill, president of
the Grey County Cattlemen's Associa-
tion, more than half of the 21 directors in
the county are associated with the Beef
Producers For Change, Inc., a group that
favours a pricing policy for beef.
Marketing is a crucial aspect of beef
operations, and in the industry support is
divided in terms of a supply manage-
ment system and free enterprise.
Hill operates a beef farm near Owen
Sound. First vice-president is Jack
Winters; Lloyd Mitchell is second vice-
president. Keith Kirk is secretary -treas-
urer, and Harold Klages provincial di-
rector. Carl Spencer is past president of
the 200 -member organization.°
4-H
There are about 8004-H members in
Grey County. The average age of Grey
County members, 14, is higher than the
provincial average because members
tend to stay in the organization longer.
The many awards sponsored by lo-
cal service groups each year help to gen-
erate enthusiasm for 4-H in the county,
says rural organizations specialist Den-
ise Edwards, who adds that the predomi-
nately rural nature of the county itself is
another reason for the popularity of 4-H.
Programs range from livestock,
crops, and farm safety to food, nutrition,
and clothing. There are 155 clubs and
more than 200 club leaders.
County president is Allan O'Neill,
vice-president is Elizabeth Lamb, and
past president is Murray Skipper.°
