Fertilize Forage
For A Pay Back In Increased Yields
Fertilize for higher yields
High yielding lorage requires top applica-
tions of plant food Ten tonne per hectare of
alfalfa can produce from 1800 to 2000
kilograms of crude protein but also removes
300 kg of nitrogen, 75 kg of phosphate and
275 kg of potash On pure legume stands
no nitrogen needs to be applied Phospho-
rus and especially potash are the key to
higher yields. Ensure maximum yields from
forage by fertilizing.
Establishment fertilization
Obtaining a good stand is the first step
toward higher yields. A complete fertilizer
that is high in phosphorus (40 kg P205 per
hectare) should be banded at seeding time
A little potash is required also Remember a
tall application of K20 is necessary
High return on your
fertilizer Investment
Fertilizing forage pays for itself many times
over in increased forage yield and quality.

Maintenance fertilization
In order to maintain vigorous, high yielding
stands of forages, adequate fertility is
necessary. Phosphate and potash levels are
the key nutrients for stands with over. 50%
legumes Yields of 10 tonne per hectare and
over may require as much as 90 kg of
phosphorus and 210 kg of potassium
Phosphate can be applied at any time
Potash can be applied alter the first cut and
the balance in late August or early Sep-
tember If nitrogen is needed it should be
applied in the spring up to 50 kg per
hectare Any additional required nitrogen
can be applied up to a maximum of 50 kg
N per application, after each cut.

WHAT'S NEW
LOCAL COMPANY
SELLS POLY LAST
Misch Enterprises of Elmwood is
now carrying Poly Last products.
Distinguished by its bright yellow
colour, the line includes combine skid
shoe and moldboard plow covers.
The combine skid shoes are made of
1/4" thick polymer shaped to fit and
attached with 1/4" - 20 bolts or 3/16"
steel pop rivets, which are included in
the kit. The plastic will not stick to soil.
The moldboard plow covers mean
that 10 to 25 per cent less power is
needed to pull the plow. Less friction
gives straight, uniform rows with better
scouring and lighter draft. The kit in-
cludes longer bolts and a spacer for the
point and shin.
Poly Last, a yellow polymer devel-
oped six years ago for the agri-business
industry, is manufactured by Poly Tech
industries of Monticello, Georgia. For
