FEEDER CATTLE
DEADLINE SOON
The deadline for enrolment in the
Tripartite Income Stabilization Plan as a
producer of beef feeder cattle is August
31, 1987.
The plan, recently extended to
cover beef feeder cattle, is designed to
reduce income lost by producers be-
cause of market risks. The federal and
provincial governments pay the same
premium as the producer. Participation
is voluntary.
With the new feeder cattle option,
cattlemen have three plans to choose
from: feeder cattle only, slaughter cattle
only, or combined feeder and slaughter
cattle.
New producers and those now en-
rolled in the slaughter plan can enrol or
transfer without penalty. A new pro-
ducer is one who has not marketed either
more than 10 slaughter animals or 10
feeder animals in the 12 months preced-
ing enrolment. Established producers
can enrol in the feeder cattle only option
without penalty but are subject to the
late entry penalty for the slaughter cattle
options.0
