WOBI REPORTS PROFITABLE YEAR
The WOBI officials shown include, from left: Morris Willows, R. R. 2, St.
Pauls, director for Perth County; Dr. A. J. McDonald, general manager of
WOBI, Woodstock; Gary West, R. R. 1, Shakespeare, new director for Perth
County; and Murray McGonigle, R. R. 1, Stratford, president of WOBI in

Westem Ontario Breeders Inc. has
reported a profit for the year ending
October 31, 1986. In September and
October, there were marked increases
in semen sales outside the WOBI area,
due mainly to the release of the site
proof on the Holstein bull, Hanover
Hill Inspiration.
WOBI serves a 12 -county area,
from South Niagara on the southeast
to Essex in the southwest to Perth in
the north.
Dr. A. J. McDonald of Woodstock,
general manager of WOBI, in giving
his annual report at the Perth County
annual meeting last month in
Sebringville, listed first services at
120,000, down 3,000 from the
previous year. For the area of Perth,
277 fewer services were reported for
the past fiscal year.
Discussing Semex sales out of
Canada over the past year, Dr.
McDonald listed $15,000,000 as the
overall sales of all breeds of cattle.
Five Holstein bulls (one of these was
Inspiration) accounted for $5,000,000
of this total. The largest month of
sales ever enjoyed by Semex was
October of 1986 — more than
$2,000,000 worth of semen was sold
to buyers out of Canada. (American
semen sales out of the U.S. from
November 1985 to October 31, 1986
were reported to be $23,000,000.)
It was also noted that the WOBI
embryo transfer business continues to
increase and looks like a positive part
of WOBI's future endeavours.
Ken Aitcheson of Stratford was
honoured with a certificate for having
completed 100,000 first services.
Aitcheson is the first A.I. technician
in Ontario to receive this award, and
only the fourth in Canada.
Retired WOBI president Murray
McGonigle of Stratford was recognized
for his 12 years of work on the Board
of Directors, and special note was
made of his years on the Sire Selection
Committee. Perth has two directors
on the WOBI board, each elected for a
two-year term (six -term maximum).
Perth director Moms Willows of
R. R. 2, St. Pauls was chairman of
the meeting. Newly elected director is
Gary West of R. R. 1, Shakespeare.0
