and growing. "We have had some
European hits, some Australian. At
least we know there's exposure. It
gives recognition that people think
this is an event worth the hit," said
Craig.
Attracting many people to learn
more about the match is the
fact that the committee has
worked diligently on being
innovative. Craig gives much credit
to the volunteers for their creativity.
"There was no idea not worth
listening too. They all had merit,"
says Craig. "It was amazing the ideas
that came out. We tried for 1990s
ideas to make this a Huron County
showcase, not just a farm show, and I
think we've done that."
It was through this creativity that

was presented. The principle was to
encourage residents, businesses and
municipalities to truly make "Huron
Shine in '99".
A total of 112 entries from across
the county were received. The
program was sponsored by the five
mutual insurance companies that
have their head offices in Huron.
"That was quite unique, that co-
operative venture. They are all in
different zones but came together to
do this one thing."
That spirit of co-operation has
been a huge part of the creative
process as well as a reason for the
event's anticipated success. "There
has been no turf. Everyone is looking
at the big picture," says Craig.
"Everyone is working together. Each
community has its own special part
of this event, but no one has lost the
whole picture. It's not to take
anything away from cities, but I think
because we were rural we all got
behind this thing together in a
special, unique way."
Craig uses the shuttle service as
an illustration of this. With concern
that the volunteers and entertainers
might not be able to get through the
crowds to be where they need to be
on time, the tented city exhibits —
antiques, special events and family
lifestyles committees - organized a
