September 21-25, outside Dashwood,
has offered pre -purchase admission.
Chairman Graeme Craig says besides
giving the match a lot of exposure
early on, the pre -purchase will
hopefully relieve congestion at
admission. "There will be an express
lane for people with tickets."
To try and encourage
procrastinators to act, the
committee promoted a contest.
Those buying advance tickets to the
match had their names entered into a
draw, which was held. August. The
winner received a Northlander
Recreational park Model Home, built
in Exeter.
"We felt it was important to
promote the county as much as
possible which is why we selected a
prize built here," says Craig. "We
have spent as much as possible
through Huron whether it's publicity,
clothing or printing."
With 8,500 tickets sold as of mid-
July Craig feels the idea was a solid
one. "Given the indication of interest
as shown by the number I guess it's a
success. We know before it begins
that 8,500 have paid to attend. We
are quite pleased."
In July, the trailer park already
had over 700 bookings for the more
than 800 serviced and 500 non -
serviced lot. "Camping isn't new.
Being so damn full at this point, is."
One way people learned about the
pre -purchase admission was from the
newly -designed IPM web -site.
Creating a page for the internet was a
concept that came up a couple of
years ago, says Craig. With over
12,000 hits, 65 per cent of them for
the first time, some as far away as
Australia, Craig says, "we have
recognized how important that
decision was."
Jim Prior of JP Computer Services
was given the task of creating the site
at the end of 1997. The name
ipm99.on.ca was chosen because the
committee wanted something
recognizable.
The site has been a data base for
committee information on everything
from where to buy tickets to
accommodations. By mid -summer it
contained 700 -plus pages of
information, says Craig. "All things
can be done on that web site. Jim has
done a heck of a job."
It has also given the committee
the knowledge that interest is there
