Count Federation o A NEWSLETTER • The Rural Voice is provided to all farmers
County eraf Agriculturein Huron County by the HCFA.
Plans are moving along well for the
OFA exhibit at the International
Plowing Match at Dashwood. Our
Huron County committee myself, Paul
Nairn, Wayne Hamilton and Steve
Thompson have arranged for the
building and landscaping. Now we need
your help in volunteering to work at the
site on Tuesday, September 21 to man
the Huron County Day. The rest of the
days will be looked after by our
neighbouring counties with Paul co-
ordinating the times and shifts. If you
have time to help us meet with OFA
member from across the province,
please let the office know at 1-800-511-
1135.
From time to time various
information comes to the HCFA
executive and board that we pass on to
our members. One of our directors has
been concerned with the problem of the
long wait for appointments for drivers'
road tests. The six-month waiting period
for young people to get their license has
turned into something approaching 12
months if they wait to book the test date
when their six-month probation period is
up. Tony Clemment, the minister in
charge has noted that one can book the
tests up to six -months ahead. If you
want your son or daughter to get their
license at the end of the six -months
period, booking should be done as soon
as they get their probationary license.
MTO Regional meetings
The MTO and the OFA have teamed up to
host a series of public consultations on
proposed changes to legislation as they
pertain to vehicles (i.e. weights, and
dimensions, etc.) OFA Vice -President Ken
Kelly will be representing OFA in these
workshops. Victor Roland, Huron Director
will be representing Huron Federation at the
local meeting in Guelph.

64 THE RURAL VOICE
From our President
Let us know how this works out or if
there is any problem with advance
booking.
Huron and Perth County Federations
have been meeting with OMAFRA,
HRDC and the stress counsellors who
have been hired by the local Pork
committees in an attempt to provide as
much help as possible to individuals and
families in our farming communities.
We have discovered that the local
employment centres can and will offer
services to people other than those
covered by employment insurance.
People, in small business including
farmers who decide that they wish to
look at all their options in this time of
continuing low commodity wish to
check out the career counselling service
that can be arranged by contacting the
employment centres in Huron and Perth.
It is always good to gather all the
information one can before making
changes in ones' career. We, in the
farming community, have often
complained that we were unable to
access as much help as other workers
A cal! for AIDA changes
WHEREAS the use of average values for
inventories in the AIDA/OWFRP does not
allow for an accurate representation of farm
operations.
BE IT RESOLVED that producers should
have the option to value inventories either in
accordance with generally accepted
accounting principles and Revenue Canada
provisions, or at the prescribed inventory
prices set out in the program application.
This resolution was approved at Huron June
meeting, and forwarded to OFA Board

when considering career changes. Now
we have a chance to try out the system
to see if it can work for farmers. Let us
know if it works.
As you can see we have asked for
your help and input on several issues
this month. We at the Huron Federation
believe that this is what the Federation is
about — the sharing of information so
that farmers truly do help farmers.
Remember to mark your calendar for
our annual meeting, Thursday, October
7, 1999 at the Brussels Community
Centre. Five Prominent Agricultural
leaders from across the Province meet to
discuss their vision for agriculture.
Come and help them and ourselves in
"Charting a Course for Agriculture."
Reserve your ticket now, so that you will
not miss this meeting with John Core,
Will Nap, Ed Segsworth, Stan Eby and
Huron's own John Maaskant.0
