work. Clothing in a portrait can be so
very important. Not long ago I was
working in a beautiful home in soft
mellow off-whites, and subtle green
tones. Imagine how glaring an image
of the family in sweaters in red,
orange and blue stood out and
conflicted with the subtle decor!
Another caution to families. Always
have an image of your immediate
family as your premier enlargement.
Although we'd all like to see our
children live happily and blissfully
ever after, the unfortunate truth is
that today this may not be the. case.
Things change! And here you are
with a 30" x 40" masterpiece of
someone you no longer commune
with! It would be much wiser to
incorporate a portrait just your kids
or you and your priceless
grandchildren as wall decor.
Now, let's fast forward to your
completed photographic art work,
and consider framing. Once more, it

enhancement for your portrait.
Consider once again your decor and
the photographic content in your
portrait, style, shape, texture and
colour will all need to harmonize to
suit your home's decor. Framing can
be costly, but the correct frame for
your artwork will render it priceless
just as the proper jewellery with your
clothing will either make or break
your image impact. The same effect
is true when dressing your
photograph with the proper frame.
Finally, let us take a look at
positioning your photograph. Design
rules state that sizes running 30" x
40" (sofa sized pieces) are best hung
above the sofa, centered directly over
the furniture piece at a height of 6" to
8" above the sofa back. If you plan to
use three 1 1 " x 14" pieces above your
sofa hang these in a straight line,
repeating the sofa line and keeping
the pictures parallel. Again, not too

sitting, we should be able to
comfortably look across our rooms
and into the picture's centre of
interest at an approximately 45
degree angle.
Dealing with a professional should
ensure you of the assistance you need
with all of these choices in
selections. And wouldn't it be
wonderful to have amongst our
possessions for posterity that ultimate
photographic masterpiece to cherish
and display. Who says we don't
deserve as many cudos and accolades
as the Eatons or Rockefellers. They
would not dream of their homes
without the ultimate family portrait.
