Our mini ice storm has melted
down and the land is beginning to dry
with the warm spring winds.
Heaps of thanks to all my
concerned friends who called or
helped out while I had the tlu bug.
It's the very first time that I've ever
missed an RRFA meeting, so Kristine
took notes on April 5 and if there are
too many mistakes, it's because I'm
still a bit fuzzy.
Attending were Linda Armstrong,
Kristine Carpenter, KimJo Calder,
Betty Salchert, Archie Wiersema,
Rudy Sinninghe, Dianne
Vandenbrand and Wade Desserre. A
guest speaker from Manitou Rapids
was in attendance to present
Stewardship of the Rainy River
Waterways. She reminded everyone
that people living along the river and
waterways, are responsible for
cleaning up and keeping it clean.
Trees do not have to be removed, as
they provide habitat and nesting for
small birds and animals. She also
invited everyone to the annual fish
fry which will take place May 14 to
coincide with a grand opening of
Manitou Mounds.
Linda volunteered to represent the
Rainy River District at the Northern
Conference. A study is to be done by
the year 2000 by University students
on impact on communities.
At the April meeting Community
Futures has agreed to finance the
maintenance fee of $350 to cover the
rental cost of the agricultural road
signs at each end of our district.
Betty has available to anyone who
gives her a call a fact sheet answering
any questions you may have on,
"What does OFA do for me?" If you
have any other questions about our
RRFA, just call Betty at 486-3556 or
fax 486-0014.
The annual 1999 Seed Fair and
Forage Competition was held at
Barwick Hall on April 16 - 17. It was
two excellent days of speakers, trade
show exhibits and entries. Friday
evening was the annual RRFA dinner
and dance with guest speaker, Elaine
Warm winds dry the land

live your life well. Elaine comes from
Boisevain, Manitoba and is a

thanks go to the people who worked
so hard to organize the event and to
the sponsors. The 1999 Rainy River
Ag Days and Trade Show was a huge
success.
