acres in three parcels that Lyle owns
plus the 97 that Grant. Cattle arc fed
individual rations. Lyle, says
Barbara, has a talent to knowing just
what cows need what fccds.
"You have to breed for type and
feed for production," says Lyle of his
strategy. The result is a current BCA
of 231, 221, 239 with an average
herd production of 10,911 kg of milk,
384 kg. of fat and 353 kg of protein.
The herd centres on three cow
families: Sunholm Patty Pansy,
Sunholm Sheik Dot and Sunholm
Emperor Juliet. Also adding to their
point total for the Master Breeder's
shield were 17 offspring from
Chieftan Darlene and 11 from Pilot
Jane. The award was based on two
excellent and 39 very good cows.
