The Rural Voice, 1999-04, Page 19easier than it is, Steve says. They see ewes and rams in a field and a few months later they see lambs and they think that's all that was involved. "They didn't sec the vaccinating, the salt and minerals needed, thc predator fencing, the facilities to work the sheep or the proper nutrition needed." Still, Judy says, it remains an inexpensive branch of farming to get into. Little expensive equipment is needed — most of thc feeders in their barn are homemade of wood. Except for lambing time the workload is lighter than with some livestock. However good manage- ment and good sanitation are essential. They creep feed their Iambs from three days of age to make them grow as fast as possible. "The shorter and tighter the wool, the faster the lamb is growing," Judy explains. "The faster its growing, the more money you make." Their various enterprises allow Steve and Judy to make farming their full-time job, and with Nicole already involved, theirs is truly a family farm .0 CANADIAN CO-OPERATIVE WOOL GROWERS LIMITED • 11 f1` Now Available WOOL ADVANCE PAYMENTS Skirted Fleeces Well -Packed Sacks For more information contact: WINGHAM WOOL DEPOT John Farrell R.R. 2, Wingham, Ontario Phone/Fax 519-357-1058 How much is a good idea worth?
