The government, with the help of the Ontario Provincial Police, should begin an investigation with a view to stopping this economic sabotage. When very large financial groups use the power of monopoly to destroy the national economy, then the Tong -term results are negative. Canadian farmers are being pushed into slavery by the hog and grain prices and consequently a poorer population is being created. Hog farmers must take action to remedy their situation. Reducing production from 100 per cent to 80 per cent would raise the price. Every hog farmer with low debt should voluntarily stop hog production temporarily. At present hog prices these farmers would save vast amounts of money. Every hog farmer with high debt will go bankrupt in the next few months, thereby reducing production in a natural, but a very painful way. Hog farmers, who stay in the business, will work for a long time with little or no return for their investment and labour until the hog prices return to normal. Farmers must help shorten the length of time of this critical situation. In the best interests of the hog farmers, the bankers, the packers and the economy of the country, the farmers should buy 51 per cent ownership of the packing industry. This would give them the necessary price control from the producer to the consumer. This idea should be acceptable to bankers, who already have loans to both farmers and packers. I believe that bankers would view this to be less risky than a loan solely to the packers, as farmland is the most secure place for money. The transfer of bank loans from the
