Guest speaker offers humour
Guest speaker at the Huron
Federation of Agriculture's Annual
Meeting, Oct. 23 will be Crystal
MacKay, Ontario Pork
Communications Specialist.
Crystal will share her humorous
insights into country living. She has
devised a way to tell if you can relate
to life in a rural community, and
she'll keep you guessing about a
sure-fire way to make money on the
farm. Funny stories of her
experiences with people who aren't
familiar with farming are mixed in
with the importance of keeping the
lines of communication open with
agriculture's customer: the consumer.
Crystal grew up on a dairy and
beef farm in Renfrew County, where
she still owns some Charolais cattle
today. She was a keen 4-H member,
completing 48 projects in dairy, beef,
horst, vet and field crop. She
completed her degree in Animal
Science and Rural Extension at the
OFA CONVENTION

University of Guelph in 1992, and
went on to become Program Co-
ordinator for the Ontario Farm
Animal Council. She has spent
approximately 100 days each year for
the past six years talking to a wide
range of audiences, including
farmers, students, and the average
person at events across Ontario. She
is currently the Communications
Specialist for Ontario Pork.
She started her own company,
Crystal Clear Communications, in
1996 with a focus on public
speaking, writing and training
programs.' Crystal's measure of
success is getting paid for doing
something that doesn't seem like
work: meeting new people and
having some fun!0
