300 4 -Hers
participate in Owen
Sound regional show
Over 300 4-H members from Grey
and Bruce Counties participated in
beef, dairy and sheep projects at the
Owen Sound 4-H Regional Show.
The participation makes it one of the
largest 4-H shows in Ontario.
The Grey County 441
Ambassadors for 1998 are Cindy
Cavers of the Wiarton Beef Club and
Keith Rcid of the Owen Sound Calf
Club.
Winners of the herdsman award
were: first, Owen Sound 4-H Beef
Club; second, Rocklyn 4-H Dairy
Club and third, Arran -Tara 4-H Club.
Honorable mention went to the
Dundalk 4-H Beef Club.
In showmanship, the senior
championship went to Joni Turner of
Owen Sound and the reserve to Jana
Pringle, Chatsworth; the intermediate
championship to Katie Hill, Durham
and the reserve to Eric Hopkins,
Durham; the junior championship to
Adam O'Neill of Wiarton and the
reserve to Chris Hopkins, Durham.
The grand champion showman was
Katie Hill of Durham and reserve
grand champion was Joni Turner,
Owen Sound.
The top junior dairy heifer
belonged to Heather Elchuck,
Dundalk while the intermediate
heifer award went to Chris Hopkins,
Durham and the senior heifer was
shown by Greg Potter, Owen Sound.
The top summer yearling
belonged to Jarrett Turner, Owen
Sound and the top junior yearling
was shown by Corey Rae, Durham.
Jarrett Turner, Owen Sound, had
the grand champion dairy calf and
Leanne Russworm of Mildmay, the
reserve. Turner also had the grand
champion Holstein and Russworm
the reserve champion. Chris Hopkins
of Durham had the grand champion
Brown Swiss and Sean McGivern of
Chatsworth had the reserve. The
champion group of four was shown
by the Owen Sound club while
Durham took the reserve group of
four.
