Nutrient Systems
tour offered to dairy
farmers, Sept. 1, 2, 3
The Ontario Large Herd Operators
Group invites dairy producers to join
a Nutrient Systems Tour and
Demonstrations on September 1, 2, 3
focusing on what goes into the cow
and what comes out. The first day of
touring takes the group to six
extremely feed -efficient, high -
producing dairy farms.
Visiting farmers will dig deeply
into their feeding strategies by
analyzing their mixes and having in-
depth discussions led by OMAFRA's
Dairy Nutritionist, Beth Wheeler.
Farms hosting the tour are Coopon
Flora at Floradale, Los Dairy Farm at
Listowel, Eckerlea Acres and
Nulandia Farms at Mitchell, Greidon
Farms at St. Marys and Grootendorst
Farm at Breslau. Also featured on the
tour are bunker silo management,
innovative calf housing, new milking
technology, and sand bedding.
The second day of the tour will
bring the group the Corn Silage
Processing Day at the Elora Research
Station where they'll look at
technology that further processes
corn silage through rollers to enhance
its feed value. Leading research
specialists will be there to discuss
how to feed and handle processed
corn silage with "Silage Processing:
Is It Worth It?" "Silo Management
for Your Processed Corn Silage" and
"Forage Particle Size: Its Importance
in Ruminant Rations". In the
afternoon several companies will be
on hand to discuss and demonstrate
their stationary roller blowers, as
well as self-propelled and pull -type
harvesters equipped with variable
speed rollers for corn silage
processing.
