For the past year and a half, the
chairs of all the committees involved
in the Huron IPM have attended a
monthly meeting where they hear
about progress being made.
"It's important to know what each
committee is doing. We don't want
committees to overlap," said Craig.
With close to 30 committees,
more than 1,000 volunteers and
thousands of volunteer hours going
into preparing for the plowing match,
good communication and
organization is needed to pull the
annual event together.
A representative from each of the
30 committees will be at this year's
plowing match near Kingston.
"It's going to be like a training
match for us," said Craig. "We'll see
how everything works."
Craig will be in Kingston for close
to nine days to see how the whole
operation works, from setting up, to
running the show to taking it all
down. "We'll help out where we
can," said Craig.
The excitement leading up to next
year's match in Huron County is
growing.
"We're trying to create a show
that has an interest for everyone in
the population, both agricultural and
non-agricultural people."
While the show's emphasis of the
show is still on agriculture, Craig
pointed out that the match is a
showcase of Huron County, so it will
include recreational activities,
entertainment and toursim. Next
year's plowing match is aptly called,
Iluron Shines in '99.
Craig said Huron's plowing match
committee wants to do a few things
differently. For instance, the design
of the tented city will be distict. Each
street will focus on a special
