The Rural Voice, 1998-09, Page 5Cover
You might say our Profit$ section on the beef
industry is about the big and small of cattle. The
cover picture is of some Dexter cattle, the
smallest breed of cattle and one favoured by
small land
holders.
Popularity of the
breed is growing
quickly. On the
other end of the
scale, the largest
feedlot operators
in the province
have formed the
Ontario Cattle
Feeders'
Association.

THE MAGAZINE OF THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY
Safe, neighbour -friendly disposal of manure has become a hot
issue in rural areas, particularly with large-scale swine
operations spring up across the province. With that in mind
Ridgetown College has begun experiments in combining liquid
pig manure with dry materials like straw or corn cobs to make
compost. Odourless and better for the soil than liquid manure it
may provide a new alternative for large livestock operators.
