The Rural Voice, 1998-02, Page 34job is getting more
complicated and more
regulated by the day.
Seed companies will be
shoving any and all traits
into elite hybrids and seed
lines — and then letting
the customer decide.
Gene stacking will
certainly be the trend. We
will really need to keep
our eyes open and our wits
about us, while all around
us are losing theirs. Let
me explain. (These are
U.S. facts.)
• Up to 14 million acres
of Bt corn seed will be
available for the 1998
season.
• Up to four million
acres of Bt cotton will be
available for 1998.
• Up to two million acres
of Buctril (Pardner)
resistant cotton will be
available.
• Up to 209 million acres
of Roundup Ready soys
U.S. estimates say 25 per cent of all crop acres will be
planted to genetically -altered crops in 1998.
will be available.
• Up to one million acres
of Roundup Ready corn
seed will be available.
