Those who make such statements
are often compared to the people who
still think the earth is flat. But let's
remember that the best scientists in
the world once thought the sun
revolved around the earth. Later
scientific knowledge showed they
were wrong. The scientists of the
1950s thought they had nuclear
power figured out, but we've found
out how little they knew,
Speaking with nearly 40 years of
hindsight, former U.S. Secretary of
Defence Robert MacNamara recently
revealed how close the world came to
nuclear war over the Cuban missile
crisis in 1962. His top advisers urged
President John Kennedy to invade
Cuba, a move which MacNamara
now says would have triggered
nuclear war.
