The Rural Voice, 1997-08, Page 31hospital," he said.
That will be one of the key
features Bantock believes the Grey -
Bruce health professionals and those
involved in the restructuring process
will have to look at.
Koch has similar apprehension for
the classification of hospitals. "We
will be concerned until we see the
final details to see who gets what
services."
There is the possibility some
facilities will still be considered
hospitals, but will have no beds, he
said. "They will be a grave concern
for the people of Huron -Perth."
The issue of the level of
emergency care is one which Thibert
sees as a point of possible contention.
"The government wants residents
to have access to emergency care, but
will the community accept the level
of service they set."
On the issue of a single
governance/administration,
health care officers would
like to believe the
government took the lead
from the concepts suggested by
Huron -Perth hospitals in their bid to
keep all eight facilities open.
"Huron -Perth has been working
hard on different models for
governance," said Bell, while Thibert
said the eight facilities are already
talking consolidation.
The government's approach has
been very supportive, said Bell,
noting that everyone in the health
care profession realizes the need to
rationalize some services. "Not
everyone can have all the services
they have now. Service consolidation
must take place and then look at the
services as an issue for all locations."
Restructuring into an amalgamated,
single governance was often seen as
a marriage of convenience when the
process began, he said. This method
is a more co-operative and planned
approach, allowing the development
of a system by consensus.
Picking up on another point made
by Wilson, Bell said the
consolidation of services will
encourage the formation of networks.
Decisions will be made in the best
interest of the entire community. The
(new) governance has to allow these
