vehicle is pulling another behind it,
then the SMV sign must hang on the
rearmost vehicle.
The SMV sign is for vehicles only.
The use of a slow-moving vehicle
sign on a fixed object, such as a
mailbox or as a driveway marker, is
prohibited if it can be seen from the
road. Slow-moving vehicle signs
attached to mailboxes or driveway
posts must be removed. The red and
orange triangle SMV sign tells
drivers to be cautious. When you see
one, reduce speed and stay well back.
Only pass when it is safe to do so.0
What does a farmer
do all winter?
By Joan McKinlay
Soil and Crop Advisor
What are you going to do when
the work is all done this fall? After
surviving the summer of 1996 this
may seem like a question you will
never have to answer. While I am
sure that there are many things to do
there are some things that should be
done and that might even be fun.
It is too easy to get discouraged by
the weather, feed costs and livestock
prices but it is now that you need to
get out talking with other people to
stimulate your thinking. There will be
many meetings held throughout the
area. If you sit down now and try to
remember all the questions you had
while you were combining and
working in the field and write them
down you will make the best use of
these meetings. Weed identification
and just thinking about what you
could do differently next year will
help others to discuss your crop
problems with you.
Most importantly, try to do
something different. Meet someone
in a totally different line of work.
Attend a craft show and watch people
sell dreams to those who can afford
them. It is too easy to become so
immersed in farming that we can't do
it to the best of our abilities. There
are opportunities out there, we just
have to work a little harder this year
to find them and to remember to
laugh once in a while.0
