The Rural Voice, 1996-06, Page 64PERTH IMPh County Pork Producers NEWSLETTER Larry Skinner, President 519-291-4870 • The Rural Voice is provided to Perth County Pork Producers by the PCPPA. Everything is looking interesting Any opinions expressed herein may not necessarily reflect the views of the Perth County Pork Producers' Association. Wow! It's May 1, 1996 and everything is looking very interesting for the coming season. It's the start of a new seeding crop year, what I call another season's promise. Perth County pork farmers take time out from their busy barn schedules to plant corn, soybeans, grain, white beans or whatever they intend to plant. By the time you read this, let's hope that the planting season is almost complete. I am writing this now because the wet and cold weather is driving me like a duck to water, calm and cool on top but pedalling like crazy below the water, to get ahead. Hogs for May are $1.83 per kg, as you know. Reality set in when we are paying the highest price ever for corn at $6.50 per bu, soybean meal is at $400 plus per tonne and oats at $330 per tonne for the horses. Land rent is sky high with farmers splitting their fingernails trying to make a profit from these wild and crazy scenarios. So until it changes, the planting of seeds will be put on hold. On to some pork views. I recently phoned the Ontario Pork board and asked how many tamers called periodically to see how well they are doing in tattooing their own hogs by finding out how many plugs they had. They said very few called. It's also interesting to note that the Pork Board has one to four pages on the Internet. hip//www.ontariopork.on. c.a. I would like to inform all Perth County Pork Producers that they are all invited to our county meetings as well as our annual meetings. Feel free to join us, for discussion, and we are always looking for able people to help out in our association and in the Pork Congress areas. By the way, the Pork Congress this year will be held at the Stratford Fairgrounds on June 20 and 21. Come out and support it. You don't have to be a director to help out and enjoy. In the number of years that 1 have been a director, I have learned more than I have contributed to this great organization, working with other members at the county level as well as at the Ontario level. May all the pork producers have a safe and enjoyable spring and summer.° — submitted by Jack De Groot Perth County Pork Producer PERTH COUNTY PORK District #4 Pres., Larry Skinner 1st Vice, Walter Bosch 2nd Vice, John Nyenhuis Past Pres., John Van Nes, Treas., Karin Martens Sec., Richard Yantzi Ken Aitcheson Brian Balfour Harry Bardoel Larry Biesinger John Crowley Jack DeGroot Fred De Marlines Johanne Groenestege Peter Huitema Vince Hulshof Peter Jilesen Kurt Keller Pat Louwagie Louis Michiels Clare Schlegel Neil Taylor Martin Van Bakel Jim Van Herk Jim Van Nes Peter Van Nes Garry Van Loon Ron Wouters Dennis Zehr PRODUCE - Councillors RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR Box RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR RR 1, Listowel 1, Monkton 1, Sebringville 3, Stratford 2, Gadshill 2, Tavistock 3, Stratford 2, Staffa 1, Sebringville 4, Listowel 2, Gadshill 1, Sebringville 1, Sebringville 1, Sebringville • 1, Sebringville 1, Sebringville 143, St. Pauls 1, Mitchell 2, Gadshill 1, Sebringville 1, Tavistock 1, Monkton 1, Dublin 1, Brunner 3, Stratford 5, Mitchell 2, Dublin 1, St. Pauls 1, Brunner RS' ASSOCIATION -1996 N4W 3G6 NOK 1P0 NOK 1X0 N5A 6S4 NOK 1JO NOB 2R0 N5A 6S4 NOK 1 YO NOK 1X0 N4W 3G9 NOK 1J0 NOK 1X0 NOK 1X0 NOK 1X0 NOK 1X0 NOK 1X0 NOK 1 VO NOK 1NO NOK 1J0 NOK 1X0 NOB 2R0 NOK 1P0 NOK 1E0 NOK 1C0 N5A 6S4 NOK 1NO NOK 1E0 NOK 1 VO NOK 1C0 291-4870 365-9000 393-6539 393-6479 595-4457 655-2766 393-5394 348-8392 393-6806 698-2937 393-6403 393-5514 393-6812 393-5523 348-8147 393-5586 271-7270 348-8043 393-6424 393-6675 655-2750 347-2511 345-2666 595-4863 393-6712 348-8763 345-2942 273-7235 595-4771 JUNE 1996 61
