The Rural Voice, 1996-06, Page 44Hand milking our cows has advanced to many milking units powered by electricity. And household appliances and machines have greatly reduced the burden of the housekeeper. Many advances have been achieved in the arca of health. Antibiotics have been miraculous in the destruction of infections. Appendicitis and tuberculosis are no longer a problem. In the late 1930s, Dr. Hergott was one of the first persons to invent such a thing as a snowmobile to transport him over some of the snow -bound roads to care for his patients. His "snowmobile" was driven by a propeller and was made for him by the Mildmay threshing machine company. It was used for several years before the roads were plowed in winter. We have two beautiful churches in our village, the Presbyterian and United, that continue to service the arca well. We have "cow town kids", a summer recreational group for children; Cubs; Scouts; Beavers; Brownies; mums and tots; all using church premises.
