Garlic, once the source of jokes about bad breath,
has become a major food ingredient in Canada
thanks to changing food tastes and ethnic
influence. Yet we remain an importing nation
despite the fact
we can grow the
crop here. At Flat
Creek Farms at
Staffa they've
taken up the
challenge in a
big way, with big
acreage and
bigger garlic
bulbs. Still,
they've barely
touched the
potential.

THE MAGAZINE OF THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY
When it comes to plowing matches, few people have more
experience than Tara's Alfred Brunton. When he judges at the
1995 International Plowing Match in Waterloo Region, it will
mark 60 years since his first appearance at the match as an
18 -year-old competitor. Since then he has won the top award
as a plowman, judged, coached, and acted as the local
committee chairman when Bruce County first hosted the
match in 1976. Page 36
