Small, easy -to -move accent
tables can be interchanged in
placement to add character. Pieces
include lamp tables, plant stands,
wine or cigar tables, etc.
Give real and artificial greenery
a bath and polish. Landscaping
floral shops offer polishes which
can add a "new look" when used. I
recommend painting baskets,
flower pots, etc. to co-ordinate or
accent with the room they are
featured in, thereby working with
the room's decor. Also every few
years I update my floral
arrangements, watching for new
styles and themes which are ever
changing.
Tired, worn linoleum or
carpeting? Top these with less
expensive acrylic fibre, Persian or
Oriental style carpets for a facelift.
Add a valance to unadorned
vertical shades or mini blinds, and
blouson side panels into bishop
sleeves. This adds new charm to
everyday window treatments.
Another possibility in window
treatment is in adding new hold-
backs or cording to replace
outdated standard tiebacks. Try
positioning these at the higher
French style for a professional look.
A fun family project is to re-
cover the surface of worn TV trays.
Let every member work on their
own tray. Decoupage the surface
with favourite pictures from
magazines, cards, newspapers, etc.
For guys, perhaps hockey, cars or
animals while gals may wish their
collage to feature fashions, or soap
stars ... the sky's the limit. The
finished effect will need
approximately three coats of
Varathane.
Through the years of this
"Spring Ritual" I've enjoyed
putting all these techniques into
practice. I truly thrill when friends
drop in and comment on the new
changes to the decor. A great
incentive to Spring into
