The following Resolutions were
Carried and will be sent to OFA for
consideration at Convention or

1. Environmental Initiatives
WHERE AS the Planning Act for
Ontario has been amended by Bill 163
to prioritize the environmental
stewardship of Southern Ontario, and
WHERE AS the "Land Stewardship"
programs were some of the most
successful environmental initiatives
ever implemented by the Ontario
Government, and
WHERE AS the Environmental Farm
Plan process illustrates the commitment
of farmers to address environmental
issues as they pertain to agriculture.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that
the OFA lobby the Ontario government
to work with the Farm Environmental
Coalition to develop, and implement a
third generation Land Stewardship
Program.
2. Rural Affairs Committee
WHERE AS several issues OFA deals
with would fall under the category of
Rural Affairs.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that
the OFA establish a standing committee
on Rural Affairs.
3. Telephone Service
WHERE AS many rural areas still have
archaic and outdated phone service,
with the latest technology usually being
provided to urban centres, and
WHERE AS farm businesses and rural
businesses are requiring better service
for the transfer of information,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that
the OFA lobby the CRTC (Canadian
Radio and Telecommunications
Commission) to insist that telephone
companies provide a basic level of
service, capable of information transfer,
to rural customers before being
permitted to further update urban
systems.
4. Certificate of Compliance
WHERE AS the issuance of certificate
of compliance are commonly required
before obtaining building permits for
farm buildings, and
WHERE AS the certificate of
compliance are issued by a provincial
authority to ensure consistency
province wide.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the
OFA lobby that the issuer of certificate
of compliance be responsible for
maintaining any terms and conditions
agreed to by all parties pursuant to the
certificate of compliance application.0
