The summer is fading quickly as
the 1993 International Plowing
Match approaches but the good times
in the outdoors will just carry on.
The rugged hills of the Bruce
Peninsula area provide a spectacular
setting for the fiery colours of
autumn. Whether viewed from the
road or more intimately from the
hiking trails in the county, the
brilliant landscape provides hours of
pleasure for tourists in late
September and early October.
Later, when the moist winds
sweep in off Lake Huron and
Georgian Bay, they'll drop plenty of
snow on the hills of Bruce, making it
one of the favourite areas in the
province for snowmobiling and
cross-country skiing. A network of
trails throughout Grey -Bruce and the
Bruce Peninsula offers plenty of
variety for snowmobilers. From
Thornbury and Meaford west to
Southampton and north to
Tobermory are 150 kilometres of
trails, maintained by six large
groomers. There are also plenty of
places to stay for visitors.

For those who prefer the quiet of
the ski trail, there are various areas to
visit. Cyprus Lake in Bruce
Peninsula National Park provides
eight kilometers of wilderness trails
from Cyprus Lake to the Georgian
Bay shore.
The Sauble Ski Club offers 12 km
of trails set in gently rolling sand
dunes north of Sauble Falls through
mixed woodland.
The Bruce Ski Club maintains

Sept. 21-25/93, Walkerton -CC1-Commercial Court
three sets of trails. At Red Bay, the
Rankin Trail is 17 kilometers long,
heading through gently rolling,
sheltered maple woods. The
Colpoy's Bay Trail gives great views
of the escarpment and Colpoy's Bay
as it winds through nine kilometers
of woods and open land. At
Hepworth the Sawmills Trail
provides seven kilometers of wide
trails groomed for both basic and
skating techniques.°
