demonstration, for instance, will
allow farmers to watch new
machinery in action in real farm
settings rather than being part of
static displays.
Nellie Johnston, Mayor of the
Tented City was presented with her
chain of office. Later, she took part
in the symbolic driving of the last
peg for the first tent erected in the
Tented City. The first furrow was
symbolically plowed by Carman
Fullerton, warden of Bruce County,
using a horse-drawn plow. Murray
Cardiff, MP for Huron -Bruce used a
modern tractor to tum another
symbolic furrow.
There was entertainment in another
tent on the site and all the invited
guests were treated to a luncheon of
barbecued Bruce beef.
Perhaps Jim Reed summed it up
best when he closed out the formal
part of the program by saying of the
hundreds of volunteers: "It's clear to
me that by September 21 they (will
have created the greatest IPM".0
