EDITION Having the host site for the match may also affect the Johnstons' corn yield. This year, Bruce County is hosting a Machine in Motion show where people will get a chance to see new machines harvest crops. Accordingly, some of the family's corn fields will be used for the demonstration. But because the match is in mid-September, organizers planted an early maturing corn which requires around 2500 heat units, rather than the commonly planted 2600 heat unit corn. The down side of early maturity is a possible decrease in yield, says Campbell. It's clear that hosting a match requires some pre -planning but both brothers say there is no real sacrifice. Evidently not, since they've been through it before and were quite willing to host it again. Their co-operation thrills IPM organizers. "They're just super," says Brunton. "We were quite happy that they agreed to host the match because we know the kind of people we're dealing with." Cumming can only agree. "They've been very receptive. They're great people."
