chlorinator and the chlorine. As well,
the PUC will conduct several water
checks daily throughout the duration
of the match to ensure proper levels
of chlorine are maintained as well as
making sure water quality conforms
to accepted standards.
After bringing up the subject of
the Walkerton PUC's involvement
with the match, Roe contemplated
that the Tented City committee could
be compared to the PUC since like
the PUC supplies much of a village's
needs, the Tented City Committee
supplies the tented community with
all of the utilities they need, like the
aforementioned electricity and water.
But the committee goes even further,
providing other services such as
garbage pickup, sewage and security.
Like any community, people
create loads of garbage, so the Tented

counties they can expect the match to
generate 80 tonnes of garbage, not
counting the special recycling
containers that will be dispersed
throughout the site for pop cans.
Sewage storage and dispersal is
another exigency in a Tented City.
Like the garbage, the refuse from the
portable toilets will be collected
nightly and taken to a sewage
treatment plant to be processed. The
other sewage, known as "grey water",
from the many caterers using sinks to
wash dishes, will be dispersed using
grey water pits. In all, the committee
will install 75 of the 45 -gallon grey
water pits in the ground where the
waste will leach away into the soil
through the pit's drain holes. If the
process doesn't work, arrangements
have been made to have the contents
of the pits vacuumed out for
transferral to a sewage treatment
plant.
On top of all this, the committee
takes care of organizing security.
