Fred's parents, Grant and Betty
Cahill, who sold their farm home of
25 years, to help buy the Texas
Longhorn Ranch, are renovating a
small house on the property, also
along a Western theme.
During the summer camp, Fred
takes a very active role in working
with the kids, as do the couple's
oldest boys, while Gail handles the
bookkeeping chores, administrative
duties and emergencies like homesick
campers. The family eat most of
their meals in the Mommacitta Cafe,
along with the campers.
If there's any drawback to life on
the Cahill's spread, at least during
the summer months, "It is that you
don't have a private life at all — we
basically tell our family and friends,
we'll see you in September!" laughs
Gail. The family has also had to
adapt to "being there when the public
wanted us." That means, when other
families are enjoying holidays, the
Cahills are conducting trail rides,
winter sleigh rides, or supervising the
campground. Admittedly, "every
now and then you wish you could
spend more time with your own
family." But that's only a minor
complaint. You see, the Cahills,
including two-year-old son Coulter,
just plain like the cowboy's life.
After all, for the Cahill family, it's a
dream come true.0
